Costume Birthday Party

Last weekend our friend, Robyn, had a birthday party for her daughter. Kaylie just turned 8 and wanted a costume party for her birthday. The kids had a lot of fun. They made cute little Halloween foam crafts, decorated cupcakes & had a costume contest.

Soccer

Trevor has been playing soccer. He plays with the Upwards League at Abilene Baptist Church. This is his first season of playing soccer. He is having a great time and learning a lot. He is really pretty good. He is the youngest kid on the team but that does not stop him from being right up there with the other kids trying to get that ball. The age group is 5 to 7 yr olds and most of the kids are 6. He is good at getting the ball away from the other kids. He is also good at blocking the other team. This is not something that he learned in practice. He just started doing it on his own. He is a great team player. The kids have to take turns sitting out since there can only be so many playing at one time. Even when Trevor is sitting out, he is cheering on his team from the sidelines. I like to watch this because I love the way he is so encouraging to others. He is always telling his team members "good job" and "good try". I am happy to see that he is so encouraging to others. That is something I work very hard at for both of my kids. I always try to point out the positive things they do and not just when they do something to get into trouble.

Pony Rides

Some friends of ours had a birthday party for their daughter at the horse stables on Ft Gordon. Trevor has been on a pony ride before but McKenna has never ridden. This had been a long day for the kids. We had been to a baby dedication for some other friends that morning and then to the birthday party. Therefore, the kids had not had naps. I was not sure how McKenna would do with the ponies since she was so sleepy. Well, she did great. Both kids had a great time riding. We are actually going to take them out there again the next time our friends go to ride ponies. I didn't really get any pictures of the actual birthday party but I did get some of the kids riding the ponies. It is a little hard to see McKenna's face because the helmet was a little big. They had it on the smallest setting but it still fell down over her eyes. This did not stop the smiling. The huge grin on her face is the look I got every time she went past me.

Trevor's New Haircut

Trevor has been asking for a mohawk for several weeks now. So when Jimmy cut his hair, that is what he got. Jimmy gave himself a matching mohawk but shaved it off the next day. His boss has rules about clean cut hair at work and the mohawk did not fit into those rules. Trevor loves his hair and it is cute.
We really had nothing else happen all last week. Our days are pretty full with homeschooling and just hanging out around the house. We do have several things going on next week so it won't be quite as slow of a week.

Trevor Turns 5

Trevor turned 5 last Tuesday. I can't believe my baby boy is 5 yrs old. We had his birthday party last Saturday but we also like to do something special on their actual birthday. About a month ago, we took the kids to the beach for the day and they had a blast. Trevor has been asking when we can go back so we decided that was perfect for his birthday. I don't have too many pictures from that day because both Jimmy and I were in the water with the kids. They had an awesome time and we hope to make it something we do every summer. We just drive down to Tybee Island for the day so it is perfect for something to do on a Saturday when we try to have fun family outings.

Trevor's 5th Birthday Party

Trevor wanted to have a "Cars" themed birthday party this year. His Grandma & PaPa offered to let us have the party at their house. They have a big fenced in backyard for the kids to play in. They also have a bouncy house & inflatable water slide that they let us use for the party. Trevor also wanted to play games at his party.

The kids made personalized license plates at the Radiator Springs DMV.

They towed cars at Tow Mater Towing & Salvage.

They threw balls into the leaning tower of tires at Luigi's Casa Della Tires.
They also had car races.
These are just a few pictures of the kids playing the games.

This also enjoyed playing on the water slide after they played the games.

After enjoying playing and opening gifts it was time for cake. I made a figure 8 racetrack cake to go along with the theme of the party.

All the kids had a great time. Trevor really enjoyed celbrating with all his friends. Thanks to all our friends and family that were able to celebrate with us.

1st Week of School

We kicked off our first week of school last week. Trevor is in Kindergarten and McKenna is doing a 2yr old preschool program. They have both adjusted well to our new schedule at home. Trevor's school day starts at 8:30 and McKenna's starts at 9:30 and they both finish at 1:30. We are taking a 45 minute break at noon for lunch and some outside time before we finish our school day. After that they both nap. Trevor sleeps for about an hour & McKenna for 2 hours. I am very excited to be able to homeschool the kids and I hope to be able to continue. Trevor is already excelling with his Kindergarten work. I don't have a lot of time to take pictures during our school day but I did remember to take one of Trevor last week. This is his desk where we do school everyday.

My goal is to periodically update the blog with what the kids are learning in school. I think this will be a great thing for the kids to look back at when they are older as well as keeping friends and family up to date with what they are learning.

Trevor does Art, Bible, Computer, Language, Math, Science, Social Studies & Writing every day. As well as working on hand-eye coordination, visual perception, listening & thinking skills and character qualities.

McKenna does Art, Bible, and Computer each day. She is also working on a few workbooks where she is learning how to color inside lines & gluing. She will be working on others with other skills later in the year. She also has about 20 minutes everyday where we sit and learn about a particular topic. This past week each day we talked about different things we will be learning in school. She also has 4 to 5 specific "learn through play" activities. I think this is the best way for kids her age to learn so that is the majority of her day.
